Winning an Effie Award in 2020 for the FlyBAIR project was a moment of immense pride for our team at Maxomedia. FlyBAIR wasn’t just another campaign—it was a bold and innovative project that brought Bern back to the skies and inspired an entire community.
The Challenge 🛫✨
Bern Airport had faced numerous challenges as airlines struggled to sustain flights from the region. In this context, the decision to create FlyBAIR, a locally supported airline, was a daring one. The project aimed to become more than just an airline—it was to be a Volksairline (people’s airline) that Bernese residents could rally around.
Within 32 days, a crowdfunding campaign raised over 1.1 million Swiss francs, fueled by the strong emotional connection of Bernese people to aviation. This happened during a time when the airline industry faced criticism due to climate concerns, making the success of FlyBAIR even more extraordinary.
The Teamwork Behind the Award 🏅
At Maxomedia, we led the charge, working closely with incredible partners:
- Simon Muster: Overall responsibility and strategy
- Seraina Greb: Project management
- Babak Kummer (me): UX design
- Stefan Kern: Awarding
It was a true collaboration across multiple agencies and talented individuals who all believed in the vision.
The Impact 🌍
FlyBAIR didn’t just connect Bern to destinations; it brought the community together in a shared dream. Despite launching at a time of growing climate awareness, the campaign struck an emotional chord and showcased the power of collective action. It’s this blend of strategy, creativity, and heart that earned us the Effie Award.
This project remains a milestone in my career—proof that hard work, even with stress, can achieve incredible things.
Let’s keep building, dreaming, and winning together! ✌😉
