Innovation or Overreaction

Sometimes in design world we think to create something innovative, we must complicate the designs. That is absolutely wrong. Adding extra features, animations, infographics and … it’s good in a certain degree. Most of the users love the simplicity. That being said, it does not mean that we must create absolute plain designs but simple. Plain and simple are not the same.

Let’s have a scenario as an example:
A Greek language teacher wants to have a website to promote her business.

First designer creates the website in all the languages that she can teach such as English, German, French and Spanish. The design is beautiful, and every page is available in all the languages.

Second designer make the website simple and just in Greek language and easy navigation.

Now the people in Greece that want to go and learn language, obviously do not speak those languages. So, making the website in all those languages is useless! It might feel cool to have a website in all languages at the first sight, in the user’s perspective that is useless. The second designer clearly did a better job by just approaching the art of simplicity.

It is ALL about perspective.

"The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it."
